This just in:
Kathryn Bigelow, whose The Hurt Locker won the PGA Award last week against Avatar and eight others, just took home the DGA Award for Best Director of a Motion Picture. Tuesday morning will bring us a guild-less Avatar, a triumphant The Hurt Locker, and a momentum-gaining Inglourious Basterds. Absolutely incredible.

Walter--Thank you for breaking this news! I am flabbergasted, and somewhat pleased. There are others I personally may have voted for instead...but what pleases me is that awards recognition is going to a "smaller" film which at least attempts to take an honest look at our world and stand as a signpost for our age. In 40 years, if I'm still breathing and taking nourishment, I may be blogging about Oscar year 2009, and discovering that "The Hurt Locker" held up well across the decades.
(But don't expect the Academy Awards to follow suit; they have become much more renegade in their choices in the last few years!)
Good Job!
