The Nominees Are (Maybe, Perhaps?)

I am so excited for Oscar noms tomorrow, you have no idea. Well, scratch that; since you're here, you are probably either (a) looking forward to them as much as I am, or (b) tired of reading about my own anticipation. Which is CRAZY. Reading about my anticipation is one of the highlights of life! (Or...wait...am I thinking of Niagara Falls?)

Some people may tell you about their "gut feelings" or "instincts". I wish I had either of those things, but these are pretty much wild guesses. Shots in the dark. Russian roulette.

BEST PICTURE
127 Hours, Black Swan, The Fighter, Inception, The Kids Are All Right, The King's Speech, The Social Network, The TownTrue Grit, Winter's Bone
What? No Toy Story 3? I actually just kind of forgot about it and decided this looked fine, though I knew something was missing, so I re-read the Entertainment Weekly predix. Ah. Well, I'm more comfortable cutting an animated film than either 127 Hours or Winter's Bone. Toy Story 3 is certainly deserving, but I don't think that a 10-wide field means all animated, all the time.

Walter, I find the announcement of the Nominations more exciting than the Awards themselves. And yes, reading about your anticipation is, actually, a highlight of my year!!

I applaud your choices...

I myself would predict a little less Oscar love for "The Town". And I hope hope HOPE Ryan Gosling and Michelle Williams are named for "Blue Valentine".

I don't think Wahlberg is a shoo-in here.

Thank you for predicting "Never Let Me Go" for score. I would LIKE to see that film, and "The King's Speech", both cited for Cinematography.

Funny how many great roles there were for Actresses, and fewer for the men. Quite a switch from the last 40 years!

I predict "Black Swan" with the most nominations, followed by "King's Speech". I will predict fewer nods for "True Grit" and maybe a snub for "Winter's Bone".

See you tomorrow morning, bright and early!

Great predictions! I am SO looking forward to tomorrow's nominations!

I loved 127 Hours, and I really want it to be nominated, but I don't think it will. And am I crazy for thinking Blue Valentine will sneak into Best Picture, Actor, and Actress?

I really like your Steinfeld prediction. I hope if she's nominated, its for Lead Actress, because I want to believe that there's no way Oscar voters would be foolish enough to think she's supporting. I really want to believe that.

Fantastic predictions. I have this feeling Toy Story 3 is going to miss out too, I've had it from the beginning but it's probably not going to happen. At least I'll know I wasn't the only one who thought it though :D

Oh and I hope and pray that Scott Pilgrim gets visual effects.

AFTERMATH--You did extremely well. Good calls on Winters Bone! There were some surprises (nice ones like Bardem) and some unfortunate snubs (Black Swan in lots of categories) and Andrew Garfield. Also some shockers no one could have predicted..."Waiting For Superman"..was it somehow ineligible?
Now the campaigning begins...
