Who's Getting A Globe?

The 75th Golden Globes are tonight! I have seen all but nine of the movies nominated - Jesus, when I see that number, it feels like a lot. Oh, well.

Anyway, in the 14 film categories: what will win, and what deserves to win? Let's go through it!

Best Motion Picture - Drama

Will win: The Shape of Water. You wouldn't think the human-monster love story would be the least divisive movie of any lineup, but 2017 was full of surprises.

Should win: The Post. Solid studio filmmaking, stellar cast, surprisingly fun.

WHO WON: Three Billboards outside Ebbing, Missouri. Goddamn.

Best Actor in a Motion Picture - Drama

Will win: Timothée Chalamet, Call Me By Your Name. I don't see a lot stopping his awards season momentum. People love him! And while Gary Oldman's playing Winston Churchill, if the HFPA liked him, this probably wouldn't be his first nomination.

Should win: Daniel Day-Lewis, Phantom Thread. So petty! So hilarious!

WHO WON: Boy was I wrong! Oldman wins!

Best Actress in a Motion Picture - Drama

Will win: Sally Hawkins, The Shape of Water. Even though Frances McDormand may be overdue for a win from the Globes (it's never happened!), the group's international makeup will probably benefit Hawkins, who also won their Musical/Comedy prize for Happy-Go-Lucky nine years ago.

Should win: Hawkins. Besides the rest of that mishegas above, she's also really fucking good in her movie. This and Maudie are great showcases for her superlative physicality.

WHO WON: Ai-yi-yi, McDormand.

Comedy categories and more, after the jump....

Best Motion Picture - Musical/Comedy

Will win: Lady Bird. The question, of course, is whether the crowd-pleasing Lady Bird or the crowd-rousing Get Out will take this prize. While this may be the only category Get Out has a shot at winning, people love Lady Bird. It's so easy to vote for.

Should win: Lady Bird. What a gem!

WHO WON: You damn right it's Lady Bird.

Best Actor in a Motion Picture - Musical/Comedy

Will win: James Franco, The Disaster Artist. He really is the best thing about the movie. But if Daniel Kaluuya wins here, Get Out wins Best Picture.

Should win: Hugh Jackman, The Greatest Showman. Don't @ me.

WHO WON: Franco.

Best Actress in a Motion Picture - Musical/Comedy

Will win: Saoirse Ronan, Lady Bird. Impossible to vote Lady Bird in Best Picture without also voting for Lady Bird herself.

Should win: Ronan. She's the heart and soul of her movie.

WHO WON: Ronan! Coming for that Oscar!

Best Supporting Actress

Will win: Laurie Metcalf, Lady Bird. Though watch out for six-time Globe nominee Allison Janney.

Should win: Metcalf. She nails motherly affection and exhaustion.

WHO WON: Girl, I told you to watch out for her - Allison Janney wins for I, Tonya.

Best Supporting Actor

Will win: Willem Dafoe, The Florida Project. It feels like he's the closest thing to a sure thing this year - besides being a beautiful performance, it's a great way to honor a 37-year career.

Should win: Richard Jenkins, The Shape of Water. The best G.B.F.

WHO WON: Whoa whoa, I should have seen this coming, the Globes throw in curveballs - Sam Rockwell won for Three Billboards outside Ebbing, Missouri

Best Director

Will win: Christopher Nolan, Dunkirk.

Should win: Guillermo del Toro, The Shape of Water. And he just might!

WHO WON: Del Toro!

Best Screenplay

Will win: Three Billboards outside Ebbing, Missouri. Oh yes. I don't think this movie is going home empty-handed, and if not for Best Actress, then surely for this.

Should win: Lady Bird. What else is this movie up for? I'm most likely voting for it.

WHO WON: Called it! Three Billboards, baby!

Best Animated Feature

Will win: Coco

Should win: The Boss Baby. But I didn't see The Breadwinner, Ferdinand or Loving Vincent.

WHO WON: You betcha, Coco.

Best Foreign Language Film

Will win: The Square

Should win: I guess First They Killed My Father, which I loved...but it's the only nominee I've seen.

WHO WON: Neither - In the Fade.

Best Score

Will win: The Shape of Water. Alexandre Desplat hasn't won since The Painted Veil, but he's been a regular presence at the Globes (nine nods!).

Should win: Phantom Thread. Sorry, Desplat!

WHO WON: I was right, it went to Desplat for The Shape of Water.

Best Original Song

Will win: "This is Me" from The Greatest Showman. Because this category is often a doozy - remember, Madonna's "Masterpiece" from W.E. won!

Should win: "Mighty River" from Mudbound

WHO WON: Yup, Pasek & Paul for "This is Me".

What do you think wins tonight? Do I sound crazy? Sound off, and watch the 75th Golden Globes, airing live 8ET/5PT on NBC.
